Blue Car Christmas!

This nostalgic painting was inspired by many a childhood Christmas spent at my Grandparents' cozy old victorian house in the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York! That's our car and instead of driving to get the tree, we would Actually trudge up onto the mountain and chop one down for the living room. Usually a lopsided scraggly "Charlie Brown" tree that looked beautiful once it was up and festooned with shimmery old fashioned glass ornaments, ropes of glass beads and dripping with silver tinsel. Underneath the tree Granny always had a little town of micah covered cardboard houses, a mirror "skating rink" and lead skating figures. Christmas time was always such a magical time for us up on Schunnemunk Mountain! Good memories! Buy the original painting by clicking on the image below:

Autumn Fun ! New Painting!

The Adirondacks and the Vermont Green Mountains are absolutely breathtaking this time of year and the leaf watchers appear out on the roads to see the blazing foliage. The air is crisp, the sky is blue , pumpkins are lined up on porches,kids are bundled up in heavy garb playing in the leaves, while mom and dad are raking (and reraking) them.Roadside stands suddenly appear with the apple cider, the donuts, apples and pies that fall is so known for. It's a good time!

So last week, I got my paints out and did a little Autumn painting of all the things I love about Autumn. I put it up on eBay, so check it out!

One of my favorite artist from long ago was itinerant artist Rufus Porter. An itinerant painter was one who would go from town to town and offer his artistic services, whether it be portraits of the families children and pets, or whole wall murals. Porter was well known for his primitive yet charming landscape murals. This bucolic country landscape was inspired by one of his scenes.
